News from around the web

With the US box office still suffering from closures from the stay-at-home orders in place across much of America Wonder Woman 1984 stays at the top again despite a big drop from the previous weekend.

There are no new releases on the chart as nearly everything at the moment is going to VOD and big new blockbusters have been push to at least the second quarter of the year although Jurassic World from 2015 makes a re-entry at 13.

In a rare movie, altohugh not surprising, the top 5 this weekend is in the exact same positions as last weekend.

US box office Quickview.

  • Number 1 - Wonder Woman 1984 (3rd Weekend)
  • Highest debut - Jurassic World (re-entry at 13)
  • Longest run - The War With Grandpa (14 weeks)*
  • Highest total gross - The War With Grandpa ($19,056,873)*
  • *Not including rereleases

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies in the US 8th - 10th January 2021.

Wonder Woman 1984

The DC Universe sequel movie spends another weekend at the top of the US chart with a gross of $3 Million which is 45% down from the previous weekend.

The movie now has a total gross of $32.6 Million after 3 weeks of release, it is the top grossing movie so far in 2021 and the third highest grossing movie since the pandemic started.

The Croods: A New Age

The Croods: A New Age

The animated sequel spends another weekend at number 2 on the box office with a weekend gross of $1.8 Million, 17% down week on week.

The movie has taken $36.8 Million after 7 weeks of release is the second top movie of 2021 and the second highest grossing movie since the pandemic closed many cinemas.

News Of The World

Staying again at number 3 is the Tom Hanks Oscar worthy movie which takes $1.2 Million over the weekend a 27% drop, giving the movie a 3 week total of $7.09 Million.

Monster Hunter~2020

Remaining at 4 is the Paul W.S. Anderson directed movie which takes $1.1 Million over the weekend, 12% down from last weekend, giving the movie a $7.8 Million 4 week gross.

Finishing of the top 5 is the Deon Taylor directed drama which take $656,606, only a 6% drop from last weekend, the movie has now taken $3.9 Million over 4 weeks.

The much anticipated sequel to the Jurassic World series has started filming, and perhaps the Tweet from director Colin Trevorrow has revealed the title to be Dominion.

Jurassic World: Dominion is likely the title of the new movie that follows the Billion dollar plus grossing first two movies in the second Jurassic trilogy series.

After Jurassic World which was all about a new theme park, then Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom about the aftermath of the collapse of that theme park, are we now getting a hint that the dinosaurs are taking over?

The cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt from the previous films and the leads from Jurassic park Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum all returning, in what capacity we dont yet know.

The new movie has kicked off filming with a release date of 21st June 2021.

Disney dominate the global box office of 2018 but the Dinosaurs make a good challenge and Sonys Super Villain experiment pays off with Venom showing its legs.

Avengers Infinity War

Avengers Infinity War

Disneys Superhero powerhouse ran away with the global box office in 2018 with the first part of their Avengers story which will conclude in 2019.

Avengers: infinity War took just over $2 billion at the global box office, the first film to reach the milestone since The Force Awakens in 2015, also from Disney.

Black Panther

As if to rub salt in the wound Disney and Marvel also had the second highest grossing film of 2018 with Black Panther with took $1.34 billion in 2018.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdon

A strong international showing for the Dinosaur film stopped Disney from totally dominating the global box office as the Jurassic World sequel is the third top film of 2018 with $1.30 billion.

Incredibles 2

Your never far from a Disney movie and here is another as the mouse house's Pixar studios provides the 4th top film of 2018 with a gross of $1.2 billion.

Sony scored their biggest hit of the year at number 5 with their Super Villain movie from the Spider-Man Universe which took $855 million, the only film on the top 5 not to take over a billion.

Here is the top 10 movies globally of 2018

  1. Avengers Infinity War = $2.048 Billion
  2. Black Panther - $1.346 Billion
  3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingsom - $1.304 Billion
  4. Incredibles 2 - $1.242 Billion
  5. Venom - $855.1 Million
  6. Mission:Impossible Fallout - $791 Million
  7. Aquaman - $748.7 Million
  8. Deadpool 2 - $741.5 Million
  9. Bohemian Rhapsody - $702.4 Million
  10. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald - $627.5 Million

At the UK box office this weekend Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom went back to the top of the chart after a week away, it took an incredible £2 million on its fourth weekend.

Highest new film Sicario 2 Soldado

The film has now taken £34 million in the UK, the first Jurassic World by this point had taken £54 million so the sequel is quite a way behind.

Falling to number 2 after a week at the top is Ocean's 8, a weekend gross of £1.2 million brings the films UK gross to £6.8 million after 2 weekends.

highest new film of the week is Sicario 2 Soldado which enters at number 3 with a weekend gross of just under £700,000.

A couple of other new films finish off the top 5 in the shape of comedy Tag at number 4 with and Indian film Ssnju at number 5.

There is a new Jurassic world film coming out on 8th June 2018 and today we get what will probably be the final full trailer.

Its a little hard to tell what is going on, but there are some scared children, some deception, Raptors on the good side and a T-Rex.

It looks like it might be a little scarier than previous film but the 12A rating suggest its not that bad.

Check out the trailer below.
