After a limited early release for 2 weeks American Hustle tops the UK box office chart.

Ending a 3 week run at the top for The Hobbit, American Hustle takes over with a weekend box office gross of £3.4 million.

Just a slither away is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, at two, with £3.2 million.

Highest new film is Last Vegas with £1.8 million.

A year ago the first hobbit films was still at the top with highest new film of the week The Impossible coming in at two.

Five years ago Yes Man stayed at the top with the highest new film right down at six, The Spirit.

Ten yeas ago The Return of the King was still riding high at the top of the box office while Stuck on you was the top film at Four.

Fifteen years ago Star Trek Insurrection was the big new film at the top knocking Enemy of the State to number two.
