Another weekend with no cinemas open in the UK which means the 2 new movies this week go direct to home cinema streaming.
Here is a breakdown of this week two new movies Cherry and SAS: Red Notice.
31st December 2018
2018 was another year at the US box office where Disney dominated with their Marvel franchise and Pixar hit while there was a sprinkling of Dinosaurs and a Deadpool for good measure.
The top film in the US in 2018 was the critically acclaimed Black Panther which was released in February and grossed over $700 million during its box office run.
As if that wasn't enough Disney also took the second spot of 2018 with Avengers Infinity War which was released in April and took an amazing $678 million at the US box office.
And again as if that wasn't enough for Disney they also managed the third highest grossing movie of 2018 with their Pixar studio film Incredibles 2 which was released in June and grossed over $608 million.
Universal took the 2018 number 4 slot in the US with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and despite the fact that it took over $400 million in the US it was far from the 3 Disney hits above it.
Finally on the top five hits of 2018 in the US is the Fox property Deadpool 2 which took $324 million, interestingly Fox's movie devision is about to be acquired by Disney, and the film had a second dip of the box office over the holiday period.
Disney's Marvel domination is set to continue into 2019 with more high profile releases, and despite the lack of any Star Wars movies (another Disney property) on this list the anticipation for 2019's Episode IX is already growing.
Here is the top 10 film of 2018 at the US box office.
4th September 2018
Mission:Impossible Fallout goes back to the top of the global box office after its release in China while Crazy Rich Asians is snapping at its heals.

The top grossing film in the series to date is Mission:Impossible Rogue Nation with $682.3 million so Fallout is within $40,000 of its total.
Crazy Rich Asians leaps to number 2 this week with $32.6 million from just 25 countries which brings the films total to $130.8 million.
At 3 is The Meg which takes $28.7 million from 67 countries whih brings the film to an incredible $462.8 million.
Last weeks top film falls to 4 this week with Ant-Man And The Wasp taking $17 million with a global gross now at $485.2 million, the Marvel movie would pass $500 million by next weekend.
Finally in the top 5 is Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation which takes $13.8 million over the week, the films global gross now sits at $485.2 million.
28th August 2018

This now pushes the total global gross of the film to $544 million after 4 weeks of release.
The Meg is still doing big business at the global box office and takes $45 million from 66 countries on its 3rd week of reelase which pushes the films global gross to $408 million.
US number 1 film Crazy Rich Asians expands its country count to 19 this week and takes $31 million, it now has a total gross of $84 million.
Mission:Impossible Fallout is still doing well globally and this week takes $21 million for a total gross of $538.7 million.
Finishing off the top 5 is Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation which takes $20 million across the week to boost its total gross to $460.4 million.
Top total global gross on this weeks chart is Ant-Man And The Wasp.
7th August 2018
Marvel continue their streak of number 1 films this week with Ant-Man And The Wasp taking over at the top of the UK box office on its debut week of release.
The sequel movie starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly took nearly £5 million on its debut weekend which is in the same ball park as the original movie which took just over £4 million on its debut.
Holding firm at number 2 this week is Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again which made a challenge for the top but fell just shy with £4.1 million, this brings the films total gross to £39.3 million after just 3 weeks.
The sequel is running ahead of the originals gross but that film had good longevity, time will tell if this film has the same staying power.
Mission:Impossible Fallout leap frogs Mamma Mia! To number 3 this week after its number 1 debut, the film takes a very good £2.4 million second weekend to bring the films total UK gross to £13.3 million.
The Tom Cruise franchise movie is running a predictable course laid out by the series and could well end up with a similar total gross.
Incredibles 2 is at number 4 this week with £2.3 million for a total gross of £39 million, this is far ahead of the original film but there is a 14 year gap with ticket price increases.
If you compare ticket sales then both films are running at very similar numbers to each other with about 4 million sales each.
Finishing off the top 5 is Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation which takes £1.4 million for a £7.7 million total after 2 weeks of release.
Highest total grossing movie of the week is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with just over £40 million after 9 weeks of release.
