News from around the web

Marvel and Disney have celebrated movies and going to the cinemas with a short video with new MCU phase 4 movies footage and announcements of 2 future movie titles.

Black Panther 2 gets an official title, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which will be out on July 8th 2022 and Captain Marvel 2 will be titled The Marvels and will come out November 11th 2022.

Also in the trailer was the first footage for Eternals which stars Angelina Jolie and is directed by recent Best Director Oscar Winner Chlo Zhao.

Finally there was a second confirmation that the MCU will get a Fantastic Four movie, made possible after the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney last year.

Todd Phillips movie Joker stays at the top of the Uk box office for another weekend despite challengers from 3 new comers to the chart inside the top 5 with Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil by far the top grossing of the new movies.

Joker

The Joaquin Phoenix starring film about the Batman villain makes it a third week in a row at the top of the UK box offie with a take of a fantastic £5.5 Million.

This pushes the film total gross to £40.3 Million, far greater than expectation and its the 5th top grossing movie of 2019, it will overtake Captain Marvel by next weekend.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The sequel movie from Disney starring Angelina Jolie makes its UK debut at number 3 with a fairly respectable weekend gross of £3.3 Million.

Compared to the original movie this is roughly half that films debut gross, but the UK bucks the trend of much of the world where the film seems to have bombed.

The film has got fairly bad reviews from critics which wont have helped, but the paying audiences have been more in favour, so in the coming weeks word of mouth might help.

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

The new film from Aardman Animation come in at number 3 this week with a gross of £1.3 Million.

Again this is a sequel movie which has not done at well as the previous movie, Shaun The Sheep Movie, and come in a little better than half as the film took just over £2 Million on its debut.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Another sequel comes in at number 4, this time is a followup 10 years in the making as the new Zombieland film comes in with a debut gross of £1.2 Million.

The audience for zombie movies has clearly not changes as the original movie came in with an almost identical debut gross.

Abominable

Dreamworks animates tale falls to number 5 this week with a gross of a shade under £1 Million which puts the films total after 2 weeks at £3.2 Million.

Toy Story 4

Pixars animated sequel does the double this week as its the top total grossing movie with £66 Million and the longest total run at 18 weeks, its at number 15 this week so it could be the movies last weekend on the box office.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe returned to the top the box office this week with Spider-Man: Far From Home on its debut weekend knocking Toy Story 4 off the top after 2 weeks at number 1.

Spider Man: Far From Home

The first MCU film post Avengers: Endgame takes the film series back to the top of the box office with a weekend gross of £14 Million.

This is far highest than the £10 Million of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and is the 36 top film debut in the UK.

The MCU is on a massive high at the moment, and with Endgames record breaking box office run the next film in the series is bound to do well.

Toy Story 4

Thee weeks in and the Pixar movie falls to number 2 with a weekend gross of £5.5 Million which pushes the films total UK gross to £36 Million.

The films gross is going to end up well below the previous movie Toy Story 3 as that film had taken an amazing £51.5 Million 3 weeks into its run.

The film is the third top film of 2019 behind Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.

Yesterday

Danny Boyles comedy based around the music of The Beatles falls to number 3 this week after missing out on the top spot with a weekend gross of £1.6 Million.

This brings the films total gross after 2 weeks £5.6 Million.

Westlife: The Twenty Tour Live

After the success of the Take That Greatest Hits Live broadcast a few weeks back Westlife try the same with great success and take their twenty year tour to number 4 with £899,488.

Midsommar

Director Ari Aster's new film disappointingly enters the box office at number 5 this week with a debut gross of £812,052.

Avengers: Endgame gets knocked of the top of the US box office after 3 weeks by new entry John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum while A Dogs Journey makes an impressive start at number 4.

John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum

The third in the John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves and directed by Chad Stahelski hits the top of the US box office on its debut weekend of release.

The film series which over time has gaines a large following beats John Wick: Chapter 2 and out grosses the first in just one weekend.

The film debut weekend gross is $57.03 million.

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel film falls down to number 3 on its 4th weekend of release with a weekend gross of $29.4 million.

With a total gross of $770.8 million it has now taken Avatar as the second highest grossing US film with just Star Wars: The Force Awakes above it, but it is still in need of nearly $200 million which it most likely wont achieve.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

The Pokémon movie falls to number 3 on its second week of release with a weekend gross of $24.8 million, this boosts its total US gross to $94 million with the next milestone in sight.

A Dogs Journey

This sequel movie doesn't do as well as its predecessor A Dogs Purpose but it still manages a top 4 entry with a debut of $8 million.

The Hustle

Falling to number 5 is the con artist movie starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson which takes $6 million on its second weekend of release.

The film now has a total US gross of $23 million.

Marvel's Avengers: Endgame sits at the top of the US box office again as a number of new release come in and try to de-thrown it with Pokemon: Detective Pikachu coming closest.

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel mega hit film spends its third weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $63 million.

This takes the films total gross to $723.5 million which means it is now the 3rd highest grossing film having overtaken Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, both from Marvel.

The only 2 films in its way to being the top US film ever are Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar it could do by next weekend but The Force Awakens could be a hard reach.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Highest new film of the week is the live action version of the popular Nintendo franchise which lands at number 2 with $58 million.

With a solid fan base and favourable reviews the Rob Letterman directed film could go on to be the top grossing Pokémon film to hit the big screen.

The Hustle

The con artist film directed by Chris Addison lands at number 3 this week with $13.5 million.

Stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson have a dedicated following which has helped the movie but with bad reviews this could sink quickly.

The Intruder

Starring Dennis Quaid and Meagan Good this Deon Taylor directed falls to number 4 on its second weekend and pushes the films total to $20.9 million.

Long Shot

Despite the positive buzz surrounding this film it falls to number 5 this weekend with $6.1 million pushing its gross to $19.7 million on its second weekend.
