It may have been the lowest grossing weekend in the US for a decade but people chose the pre Avengers: Endgame weekend to scare themselves with The Conjuring Universe horror film The Curse Of La Llorona.
From the Universe of The Conjuring, Annabelle and The Nun comes another offshoot as audience in the US chose to be scared by the ever popular series.
The new film from director Michael Chaves took $26.5 million on its debut weekend of release.
Falling to number 2 this weekend is the DC Universe superhero movie that takes $17.3 million on its 3rd weekend of release.
The film has now taken $121 million in the US and has now surpasses $100 million milestone.
Audiences not in the mood to be scared this weekend instead went for this true life drama which enters the box office at number 3 with a debut weekend gross of $11.1 million, $14.6 million with previews.
The superhero character will be in cinemas again this coming weekend as part of Avengers: Endgame, but her solo movie debut is still at number 4 on the chart this week.
The Brie Larson starring film takes $9.1 million on its 7th weekend to boost its total US gross to $400 million meaning it has now surpassed another milestone.
2 weeks in and the age bending comedy falls to number 5 with a $8.4 million weeeknd pushing its total gross to $29.3 million.
The live action remake of the classic animation has not been the biggest hit for Disney or director Tim Burton but this week is at number 6 and surpasses the $100 million milestone after 4 weeks of release.

It was a tight fought battle at the top of the UK box office this weekend between Night School and last weeks top film The House With A Clock In Its Walls but the new comer won in the end.
Taking iver at the top the new romantic comedy starring Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish took the top with £1.59 million, a very slim margin of £0.05million.
Kevin Hart has appeared in some high profile film including Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle so this is a fairly low opening for him, for Tiffany Haddish who starred is the £8 million Girls Trip from 2017 this will go down as her second highest grossing film in the UK.
Taking top honors that week the Jack Black starring film nearly repeated this week but gets knocked down to 2 taking £1.54 million for the weekend, this boosts the films total to £5.5 million after 2 weeks.
The Paul Feig directed film falls to number 3 this week with just over a million pound weekend gross which takes to films UK gross to £3.4 million after 2 weeks.
The American smash hit comedy is still doing well in the UK, although not bringing in the same success as across the pond, but a £0.7 million weekend puts the film at number 4 this week and boosts the total gross to £4.8 million.
Halloween may be just around the corner but this horror film will be out the charts by then, sitting at 5 this week with a £0.6 million weekend brings it to a very respectable £10.5 million UK gross.
The sequel has done amazingly well in the UK and is the top total grossing film again this week, dropping to number 13 this week the film has a UK total gross of £65 million.
It probably wont outgross the original movie's £69 million which for a time was the UK's top film but it will be in the same ball park.

Smallfoot takes over at the top of the global box office ahead of Night School nocking The Nun from the top down to number 4.
The Animated family comedy expands to 50 countries this week and takes $37 million at the global box office, this brings the films total gross to $38.6 million.
Making its debut at the global box office this week the film starring Kevin Heart and Tiffany Haddish is showing in 20 countries and takes $33.5 million.
The mystical comedy on its second week of release takes $21 million from 24 countries which boosts its total cume to $65.7 million.
Still showing in 81 countries the horror film from the Conjuring universe takes $21.6 million which takes its total global gross to $330 million, its is now by far the top film within the Conjuring series of films.
Expanding to 41 countries this week the Rowan Atkinson starring film takes $14.2 million which takes the film total gross to $44.2 million.
Another change at he top of the US box office this week as romantic comedy Night School takes over from The House With a Clock In Its Walls on its debut weekend.
Starring Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Heart the Malcolm D. Lee directed movie took $28 million on its debut weekend of release wich was enough to take it to the top despite the poor critical response.
Coming in at number 2 this week the animated comedy starring the voice of Channing Tatum could quite beat Night School and took $23 million for the weekend.
Falling from the top to number 3 this week on its second weekend the film took $12.5 million boosting its total US gross to over $44 million.
Dropping to number 4 this week the Paul Feig directed film takes $6.6 million on its second weekend to take its total US gross to $43 million.
Finishing of the top five the horror film based in the Conjuring universe takes $5.4 million on its fourth weekend of release to take its total cume to $109 million making its top grossing film the the film universe.

The big film of the week is from director Eli Roth who is more known for his gore slasher and violent movies, but here delivers a family friendly tale of magic and wonder.
The film stars Jack Black and Cate Blanchet and makes its debut on the UK box office with £3.3 million, for Black and Blanchet who have starred in some big profile movies this is a low gross but for Roth this is a good opening weekend.
Also new this weekend is A Simple Favour from director Paul Feig, it is his first directing outing since the critically panned Ghostbusters reboot from 2016.
Opening to £1.6 million it does well for the director, the film stars Anna Kendrick and Linda Cardellini.
Doing well at number 3 is King Of Thieves which takes £1.5 million on its second weekend to bring the Michael Cain film to £3.7 million total.
Crazy Rick Asians has a good second weekend at number 4 on the box office and takes £1.1 million, down only a small amount from last weeks debut, this brings the film to £3.5 million total gross.
Finally at number 5 is horror film The Nun which takes £1 million for the weekend taking its total gross to just under the 10 million pound mark.
Last weeks number 1 film takes a massive tumble down the chart this week to number 7, its total gross is now £3.8 million after a £0.6 million weekend.
