Taking a very respectable £9.8 million the third and last film in The Hobbit series, and most likely The Middle Earth saga, manages to beat everything else with little trouble, and it also beats the second of The Hobbit films debut gross, but not the firsts.
The new number one film takes over from last weeks top film Paddington which falls a single place after two weeks at the top, it's total gross to date is £14.3 million.
