Global Box Office Figures 17th - 19th December 2021: Spider-Man dominates the box office on its debut

Spider-Man: No Way Home
The long awaited arrival of the new Spider-Man movie this weekend left the global box office with a new number 1 movie and with the sequel to Sheep Without a Shephard released in China there was also a big new number 2 movie.

Also making an impact on the global box office with an early release in a handful of countries is the sequel movie The Matrix Resurrections which is new at 4.

    The release of a new Spider-Man movie has been an event since the original Sony produced Spider-Man in 2002, but after all the hype and the rumours this one has been more anticipated than usual.

    The movie makes its debut at the top of the global box office with a massive global gross of $600 Million from a massive 61 countries.

    The movie also makes in debut in the top grossing global movies of 2021 at number 6.

    Fireflies In the Sun

    Making its debut in China only this weekend is the sequel movie to Sheep Without a Shephard which makes its debut with a gross of $54.3 Million.

    Disneys latest movie is turning into another big hit for the studio as the animated feature this week takes $14.4 Million from 48 countries, a 37% drop over last weekend.

    This gives the movie a total global gross of $175.5 Million over 4 weeks of release.

    The Matrix Resurrections

    Getting an early release in 7 countries this weekend is the much anticipated next instalment in The Matrix series.

    Despite only released in a handful of countries the movie still makes its debut at number 4 with a gross of $9.2 Million.

    It goes ultrawide on Wednesday of this weekend so expect the movie to climb next weekend, altohugh as its available on HBM Max as well as cinemas it has a big task to knock

    Spider-Man: No Way Home off the top after just one week

    I Am What I Am

    Climbing up to number 5 this weekend after going wide in China, the only country it is release, with a weekend gross of $7.4 Million, a 65% jump, for a total global gross of $101.6 Million.
