A year ago (2019) -

This weekend a year ago was quite momentous with Avengers: Endgame hitting the top on its debut weekend to take the crown from Spectre (2015) as the highest grossing debut in the UK.

With a total gross of £43.4 Million it was also the top total grossing film of the week.

The movie was directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

The film with the longest run was Captain Marvel which had been on the box office for 8 Weeks.

Five years ago (2015) -

Also making its debut at the top was Avengers: Age of Ultron starring Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth and directed by Joss Whedon

The film with the longest run was Home which had been on the box office for 6 Weeks.

The top total grossing film of the week was Fast and Furious 7 which had taken £34.8 Million after 4 Weeks of release.

Ten years ago (2010) -

Another film making its debut at the top was Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey and directed by Shawn Levy

The longerst run on the box office and the top total grossing film was Alice In Wonderland which had taken £41.9 Million over 8 Weeks of release.

Fifteen years ago (2005) -

The number one film was The Interpreter which had been at the top for 2 Weeks.

The top new film of the week was The Wedding Date directed by Clare Kilner and starring Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney which entered the box office at number 3.

The longerst run on the box office and the top total grossing film was Hitch which had taken £16.8 Million over 7 Weeks of release.

Making its debut at the top was Kevin and Perry Go Large starring Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke and directed by Ed Bye

The number one film was Muriels Wedding which had been at the top for 2 Weeks.

The top new film of the week was Before Sunrise directed by Richard Linklater and starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy which entered the box office at number 13.

The film with the longest run was The Shawshank Redemption which had been on the box office for 10 Weeks.

The top total grossing film of the week was Rudyard Kiplings the Jungle Book which had taken £7.4 Million after 10 Weeks of release.

Thirty years ago (1990) -

The number one film was Look Who's Talking which had been at the top for 4 Weeks and with a total gross of £9.4 Million it was also the top total grossing film.

The top new film of the week was The Krays directed by Peter Medak and starring Billie Whitelaw and Tom Bell which entered the box office at number 3.
