US Box Office Report Weekend 18th December 2015: The Force did awaken big time

ADVERTISMENT
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, it is quite simply all about Star Wars this week, as if anyone of surprised by that! The highly anticipated newest instalment, called Star Wars: The Force Awakens made its debut across the world this week and simply blew everyone away with how good the film is, and how much money it took.

In America it now holds the record for the highest grossing opening day and opening weekend, first day ticket sales were $120 million, incredible.

The previous record holder for opening weekend was only achieved in the summer of this year, Jurassic World opened to $209 million, The Force Awakens opened to nearly $240 million.

The film was always going to be a big opener but the film has far outstripped expectation and the world is now looking to see if it can out perform Avatars total world gross of $2.8 million to be the biggest grossing film of all time.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 after an incredible 4 weeks at the top falls to number 4 this week having made $254.4 million to date.

As odd as it seems Star Wars The Force Awakens wasn't the only new film released this week, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip was new at 2 and Sisters was new at 3.
