The classic horror movie from the 1990's is given a modern makeover by director Nia DaCosta which takes $22.3 Million on its debut weekend.
The original movie which stars Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd was from a story by renown horror write Clive Barker, the remake is brought to us by man of the moment horror diretor/producer Jordan Peele who wrote the story with the director DaCosta and Win Rosenfeld
Even more incredible is that this is the first movie to make its debut at the top of the US box office from a black female director, an amazing achievement.
The sleeper smash hit from director Shawn Levy falls to number 2 this weekend with a gross of $13.5 Million which is only 28% lower than last weekend on the movies third week on the box office.
This gives the movie a US total gross of $79.3 Million which makes it the 7th top movie of 2021.
Dropping to number 3 this week is the Children's favourite which takes $6.6 Million on its second weekend, a fairly steep 49% drop over last weekend.
The movie has now taken $24 Million in total in the US.
Dropping a single place to number 4 this week is Disney's action adventure movie which takes $5 Million on its 5th weekend, a 19% drop.
The movie has now passed the $100 Million mark in America which makes it the 4th top movie of 2021.
The horror movie sequel falls to 5 with $2.8 Million, down 44%, giving the movie a total gross of $24.5 Million after 3 weeks of release.
