World Box Office Weekend Report 26th - 29th February 2021: Hi Mom still top of global box office with China still out grossing all global markets

As the pandemic is starting to get under control in much of the world with the agressive distribution of the vaccine many markets are starting to open their cinema door with China still leading the way, and with Russia and Japan still showing good number and this coming weekend many more American states are staring to open up.

This means the global box office is starting to take shape, and although its still heavily lead by Chinese movies this week the new Tom and Jerry: The Movie has done well globally, and next weekend we have the new Disney movie Raya and the Last Dragon hitting cinemas.

Hi, Mom

The hit Chinese movie got a release 3 weeks ago in its native, the same weekend as Detective Chinatown 3, and both film became top grossing movies in their own right.

The Ling Jia directed movie this week takes $53.3 Million which is a 60% drop from last weekend but the movie has taken an incredible $677.3 Million in China alone, beating the likes of Avengers: Endgame.

Tom and Jerry

The feuding duo in their first live action movie, although the cat and mouse are traditional animation, think Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which climbs from 10 to 2 this week.

Taking a quite amazing $30 Million this movie is 92% up from it debut gross last weekend, the movie has takes $43 Million in total.

Detective Chinatown 3

The second movie to be doing massive number in China is the sequel movie directed by Sicheng Chen which this week drops to 3 with $19.9 Million, 53% down, taking its total gross to $677 Million.

Ren Chao Xiong Yong

This dramatic take of an actor down on his luck remains at 4 this week with $14.5 Million, down just 1% from last week, its total is now $57 Million after 3 weeks of release.

A Writer's Odyssey

Directed by Yang Lu this action movie is turning into a global hit and this week despite dropping to number 3 takes $12 Million, a 12% drop, for a $125 Million total after 3 weeks of release.
