With new blockbuster potential movies few and far between at the moment its good to see once blockbuster take over from another as Monster Hunter tops the US box office on its debut.

The special effects extravaganza takes over at the top on its debut meaning its the highest new movie of the week the only other new entry is Fatale at number 3.

Monster Hunter

Director Paul W.S. Anderson returns to the video game genre, with the same star as the Resident Evil series Milla Jovovich for this adaptation which makes its debut on the US box office at number 1 with $2.2 Million.

This is the second movie in succession to top the box office with over $2 Million in the age of COVID-19, and with Wonder Woman 1984 released this coming Friday we could get 3.

The Croods: A New Age

Falling to number 2 after 3 weeks at the top is the animated tale of the prehistoric family which takes $2 Million over the weekend, 34% down from last weekend and just shy of the number 1 spot gross.

The movie is on its fourth weekend of release and has taken a very good $27 Million.

Fatale

Second highest new release of the weekend comes in with little hype as director Deon Taylor takes his new film to number 3 with $925,000 on its debut.

Elf

Still spreading holiday cheer is the 2003 comedy starring Will Ferrell which takes $365,000 over the weekend, only 9% down from last weekend.

The movies has taken $176.5 Million since its release in December 2003.

Half Brothers

Director Luke Greenfield's Mexican movie falls from second place to number 5 this weekend with a gross of $260,000, 47% down from last weekend.

The movie has done amazingly well for a film with little hype and after 4 weeks of release has taken $1.8 Million at the US box office.

The world was in the mood for the third, and final, Logan movie this weekend as the new Wolverine film knocks last weeks for fin, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter down to number 5.

Logan has a massively wide release in 82 countries and duly makes a massive $287.8 million across the globe, more than 8 times more than the film at number 2.

With such a good start to its box office run, and great reviews Logan could go on to be one of the biggest X-Men films in the series.

The film at number 2 is Get Out which this week grosses $26.1 million globally, a fantastic gross considering the film is still only on release in 1 country, America, its total gross is now over $75 million.

After hitting the top of the global box office on its Chinese release Resident Evil 5 falls to number 5 this week with $18 million weekly take from 43 countries bringing its total to $293.9 million.

Highest total grossing movie on the global box office is Sing which has now taken $565.3 million in total and is still released in 63 counties.

Films often get a delayed release in China and this week Resident Evil: The Final Chapter takes the top spot at the global box office weeks after its US and European release.

The last of the Resident Evil films grosses just over $93 million on its debut in China, and with its gross in the other 50 countries it take $97 million for the week.

This brings the film world gross to $238.5 million, a figure that brings it in line with the best of the series.

Highest new film this week across the globe is American number one hit Get Out which has takes $30.5 million on its debut, in America only, it sits at number 3.

Oscar film like La La Land and Moonlight are set to do well next week on the global box office but this week only La La Land has a place, at number 8.
