As if there was any doubt about what would be at the top of the UK box office charts this week, and without any hassle The Hunger Games: Mockingly Part 1 has a terrific first week of release.
Taking over £12 million on it's debut weekend this is the third in The Hunger Games series, which has grown in strength as each film has been released.
The previous film in the series took almost exactly the same on it's opening weekend, but the first film, which was introducing a new franchise to cinema, took far less at just under £5 million.
Last weeks top film, Interstellar, falls to third place this week with The Imitation Game staying put in second place.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took over at the top of the chart knocking Gravity down to second place.
Five years ago
Another franchise, The Twilight Saga had it's second film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, enter at the top of the box office knocking 2012 down to second place.
Ten years ago
Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason kept it's hold on the top of the box office with the highest new film entering at 3, After The Sunset directed by Brett Ratner and starring Pierce Brosnan.
Fifteen years ago
The Sixth Sense was still enjoying it's run at the top of the box office with Harrison Ford starring in the Sydney Pollack directed film Random Hearts being the highest new film right down at seven.
17th March 2014
No move for Gravity at the top of the DVD/Blu-ray sales chart, no doubt the Oscars help it out no end, highest new film is at 2 this week.
With Gravity holding its own at the top, Enders Game had to settle for the runner up spot to debut. The Harrison Ford starring film was meant to be a big sci-fi film released at the end of October last year, but a weak entry at 5 on the box office saw the film sink after 4 weeks taking just shy of £3 million.
It's an interesting week for movie sales, Disney has its annual sale on currently and this has seen 9 Disney disks enter the top 20. The highest of these is Monsters University from last year, but The Little Mermaid has also made a high entry at 7, incredible for a 25 year old film.
10th March 2014
After a good haul at last weeks Oscars Gravity debuts as the top selling DVD/Blu-ray this week.
Starring Sandra Bullock and (for half the film) George Clooney, there was no stopping Gravity this week.
Gravity was released at the UK box office in November last year, debuting at the top of the Box Office, where it spent 2 weeks.
After 16 weeks the film is still in cinemas as may well stay for a few more weeks after it's success at the Oscars.
Last weeks top film, Thor The Dark World, falls down to 2 this week.
6th February 2014
For a third straight week there is no change at the top of the box office with The Wolf of Wall Street still proving too dominant and with little in the way of big new releases.
Wolf adds another £2.4 million to bring it's total to £14.9 million and looking to be Scorsese's biggest film, his previous best was Oscar winning The Departed from 2006.
Highest new film is at 3 with That Awkward Moment with took a relatively low £961,167 over the weekend.
Long running films Frozen, Gravity and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug are still doing well but this could be the last weekend for The Hobbit and Gravity, although The Oscars could change that.
Last year Les Miserable Was still holding the top spot with highest new film Flight starring Denzel Washington entering at 3.
Five years ago Slumdog Millionaire was still doing well at the top with highest new film Revolutionary Road entering at 3.
Ten years ago the as also no move with Scary Movie 3 staying at the top, no new films in the top 10, highest new film was Cold Creek Manor at 14!
Fifteen years ago Shakespeare in Love entered the box office at the top knocking Little Voice down to 3.
