Spider-Man: No Way Home goes back to the top of the North American box office as last weeks top movie, Scream slips to number 2 on its second weekend of release.
Highest new movie of the weekend is Redeeming Love from director D.J. Caruso which makes its debut at number 4, and its the only new movie on the top 15.

North American box office breakdown weekend 21st - 23rd January 2022.
Climbing back to the top of the US box office this weekend is the Marvel/Sony Spider-Man movie which dipped to number 2 last week to allow Scream to have a week at the top but regains the crown on its 6th weekend of release.
The movie takes an amazing $14.1 Million on its 6th weekend of release which is a 30% decrease from last weekend.
The movie has now taken $721 Million in the US, this makes it already by far the top grossing movie of 2022 in America, but its also now the 5th top movie of all time.
By the time you read this is will have overtaken Black Panther to be the 4th top movie in America as it looks at the $760.5 Million taken by Avatar to enter the top 3.
The movie made a brave move last weekend and displaced Spider-Man: No Way Home for a weekend, but this week it falls to number 2 with a weekend take of $12.4 Million, a relatively large 59% drop over its debut.
This gives the movie a 2 weekend total of $51.3 Million and is the second top movie of 2022 in North America.
The smash hit animated sequel movie stays at number 3 with $5.7 Million on its 5th weekend of release, a small 28% drop over last weekend.
The movie has now taken $128.4 Million and is the 3rd top movie of 2022, in comparison to the 2017 original Sing its running at about half that movies gross.
The highest new movie of the weekend is from director D.J. Caruso and starring Abigail Cowen in this love story which makes its debut at number 4 with $3.7 Million.
The directors last movie was in 2017 when he directed the action movie xXx - Return of Xander Cage which debuted at number 2 with $20 Million.
This movie has proved to be a bit of a slow burner as it remains at number 5 this weekend with $1.7 Million, a small 20% drop, giving the movie a $31 Million total gross after 5 weeks and is the 4th top movie of 2022.

Maverick director Paul Thomas Anderson chose a couple of upcoming stars for his latest movie which is a coming of age love story set in 1973 which has been given a 15 age rating.
The movie stars Alana Haim as the 25 year old love interest of Cooper Hoffman with help from Sean Penn and Tom Waits.
The movie is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson who is best known for his fantastic observation of the porn industry in Boogie Nights.
A drama in which a teenager and his 25 year old crush navigate life and first loves whilst growing up in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley.

Director John Krasinski brings us his sequel to 2018s A Quiet Place and despite the long wait for the movie it dominates this weeks global box office.
The movie stars Krasinski real life wife Emily Blunt and has been hit by positive reviews and good global box office figures for a pandemic Hollywood movie.
Also making a big impact is Disney's Cruella which makes its debut at 2 while The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It makes a new appearance at 10 with a release in a few countries.

Taking over at the top of the global box office on its debut is the John Krasinski directed sequel movie which is released on 6 countries this weekend.
The movies takes a debut gross of $70.3 Million which is very good for a Hollywood movie during this pandemic era, and a sign that the box office is starting to return to normal.
Disney release their long awaited Cruella De'vil origins movie to the world and despite it being released on Disney+ Premium as well it enters the global box office at number 2 from 30 countries.
The debut gross of the movie is 37.4 Million which is reasonable but could have been higher had it not been for A Quiet Place Part II at number 1.
The lastest Fast movie falls from the top to number 3 this week altohugh it is only playing in 8 countries with North America, Europe and Australia still to come.
This weekend the movie took $30.8 Million, an 81% drop from last weekend, which takes it to $229 Million global gross, it is now the fourth top global movie of 2021.
Jumping back into the top 5 is the Japanese animated movie which is at number 4 this weekend with $16.4 Million, a 99% increase from last weekend.
The movie has been on the box office for 17 weeks now and has taken $47.8 Million.
The Chinese love story falls to number 5 this weekend with $5.1 Million, a 65% drop, giving the movie a total gross of $41.8 Million after 2 weeks.

The film billed as the saviour of cinema for many weeks and months has finally been released as Christopher Nolan's much anticipated Tenet is seen across much of the world with a debut inside the global top 5.
The movies release is the first sign that cinemas are starting to open across the globe albeit with social distancing and mandatory mask wearing in many territories.
The top movie of the week is still The Eight Hundred but there are also new releases from The New Mutants, and missing out on a debut on the top 5 Bill And Ted Face The Music, although there is a good reason for that!
Here is the top 5 global movies for weekend 28th - 30th August 2020.
The Chinese movie has done massive numbers in its native territory and this weekend remains at the top of the global box office with a take of $161 Million.
This brings the movies total global gross to $277 Million after 3 weeks of release and may soon to become the top movie globally of 2020.
The world has waited a long time, not only for this new movie from Christopher Nolan which has been delayed a couple of time but for a movie which audiences can get excited about since cinemas closed in the middle of March die to the coronavirus pandemic.
With many countries, especially America, still not opening cinema doors, and with many countries having limited capacity the movies total box office gross is lower than could have been, the movie took $53.6 Million and there is no way of telling at the moment if thats good or bad!
As more countries open and cinemas relax their limited capacity even more this movie could hang around for a while, even if Warner Bros. decide to release it onto streaming quite quick.
With the Chinese cinema open more than most other countries its no surprise that films from their box office are doing well.
Moving to number 3 this week is this love story which takes $9.9 Million over the weekend taking its total gross to $60.5 Million.
The X-Men universe movie has had a troubles time with release dates, originally scheduled for a 2018 release then delayed, then hit with more delays due to the COVID-19 closures, but its finally made it to cinemas and enters the global box office at number 4 with just under $10 Million.
Like fellow new entry Tenet the movie got released in a handful of cinemas and is still yet to be released in much of the world, so expect a growing gross over the coming weeks, although a Disney+ release can be expected soon.
Pixars latest movie falls to number 4 this weekend with $6 Million giving the movie a global gross of $141 Million over 25 weeks of release.

As the global box office starts to recover figures are still limited to the studios willing to share them, but with the Chinese box office seemingly doing well The Eight Hundred is the top film of the weekend.
There are no new releases this week as the world waits the the saviour of cinema Tenet to be released next weekend but catalogue films once again do well.
With the starts of the revitalised box office in the UK and some new releases in the US, like Bill And Ted Face The Music, next weeks chart could be a lot different.

Having been released in the Chinese market now for a couple of weeks the action adventure movie from director Hu Guan takes $8.2 Million over the weekend and is the countries top movie.
The movie has now taken $116 Million in its native terretory with a release in other countries still to come.
The Derrick Borte directed movie is at number 2 and takes $4.7 Million over the weekend from multiple territories for a $13.6 Million total after 4 weeks of release.
The movie in the top film this weekend in Australia, United Kingdom and United States.
The Pixar movie would have been a massive hot for the CGI studio had it not been for the pandemic, but still 24 weeks on the movie is still on the global box office.
This weekend the movie is at number 3 and takes $4.5 Million taking its total to $116.9 Million.

The first harry Potter movie falls to number 4 this weekend after its 'debut' at the top last weekend with $4.1 Million.
