Spider-Man: No Way Home remains at the top of the UK box office despite a decent challenge from newcomer Scream which is the top new entry at number 2.

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 14th - 16th January 2022
Holding onto the top spot for a 5th weekend is the Marvel/Sony movie from the MCU which takes £3.2 Million over the weekend, a low 28% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a 5 week total of £84.1 Million making it the 7th top movie in the UK as well as it being the top movie so far in 2022 with £14.2 Million taken this year.
Highest new entry this weekend is the 5th movie in the long running Scream series which makes its debut at number 2.
The movies debut gross is £2.4 Million, which is higher than the debut gross of the previous movie in the series Scream 4 from 2011, although that movie did make its debut at number 1 in mid April.
Falling to number 3 on its 3rd weekend is the prequel movie from director Matthew Vaughn which takes £627,445, a 31% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a total gross of £6.4 Million and it is also the second top movie of 2022 with £2.9 Million taken this year.
Remaining at number 4 this week is the live action version of the big red dog animated series which takes £525,107 over the weekend, a low 16% drop.
The movie has now taken £7.9 Million over its 6 weeks of release and with £1.9 Million taken in 2022 it is the 4th top movie of the year.
Paul Thomas Anderson's coming of age drama drops to number 5 this weekend with £393,988, a large 55% drop over last weekend, this gives the movie a total gross of £1.5 Million after 2 weeks, it is also the 6th top movie of 2022.

Back for a 5th movie in the series, and this time once again just called Scream the long running franchise re-unites all the primary cast from the 1996 original.
The movie makes its debut at the top of the US box office with a gross of $30.6 Million making it the second highest grossing movie of 2022.
Falling to number 2 this weekend after a 4 week spell at the top is the Marvel/Sony MCU movie which takes $20.8 Million this weekend, a 37% drop over last week.
This gives the movie a total US gross of $698.7 Million, it is the top movie so far in 2022 with $88.8 Million and is also the 6th top grossing movie of all time in North America.
The animated sequel falls to number 3 this weekend after three weeks at number 2 with a weekend gross of $8.2 Million, a 31% drop over last weekend.
The Garth Jennings directed movie has now taken $119.3 Million in North America and with $29.6 Million in 2022 is the 3rd top movie of the year.
The action movie starring Diane Kruger and Penelope Cruz falls to number 4 this week with $2.3 Million, a hefty 51% drop over its debut last weekend, giving the movie a $8.4 Million total and the 5th top movie of 2022.
Four weeks on and the prequel movie falls to number 5 with $2.3 Million, a 39% drop, pushing its gross to $28.6 Million and the 4th top movie of 2022 with $9.1 Million.

This weekend Spider-Man: No Way Home had it's first movie with a series challenge for the top hot cinemas, but the Marvel movie was stronger and spends a fifth weekend at number 1. Therefore Scream makes its debut at the global box office at number 2 this weekend and is the only new release inside the top 10.

Marvel and Sony's mega smash hit movie spends a 5th weekend at the top despite strong competition Scream with a weekend gross of $54.2 Million from 64 countries, a 44% drop over last weekend.
The movie has now taken an incredible $1.6 Million over its 5 weeks of release, it is the top movie of 2022 so far with $256.1 being taken this year and is the 8th top movie of all time.
The horror sequel makes its debut at number 2 this weekend having been released in 51 countries, and has a debut gross of $48.6 Million.

The Scream franchise is back and the new movie has been given an 18 age rating by the BBFC for showing in UK cinemas.
The movie has most of the original stars return to the franchise, Neve Campbell is back once more as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox reprises her role of reporter Gale Riley, Gale Weathers from the original movie.
The movie is co-directed byMatt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who both have a good pedigree in the horror genre with films like Devil's Due and V/H/S.
