Great movie for everyone! Sonic does say OMG (but not shortened) and Robotnik makes some pretty evil threats, but this is a great movie!

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 1st - 3rd July 2022

Making its debut at the top this weekend is the latest movie from the smash hit series Despicable Me, and the direct sequel to Minions from 2015.

The movie takes an incredible £10.4 Million on its opening weekend giving it a clear debut at the top and knocking Elvis~2022 to number 2 after a weeke at the top.

In comparison to 2015 original took £11.5 Million on its debut at the top at the same time of year and went on to take nearly £50 Million.

A week at the top for the Baz Luhrmann bio-pic which falls to number 2 this weekend with nearly £3 Million, a small 26% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of £10.1 Million in the UK after 2 weeks of release.

Still inside the top 3 this weekend is the Tom Cruise smash hit with takes £2.6 Million on its 6th weekend of release, a small 21% drop over last weekend.

THe movie has now taken an amazing £68 Million at the UK box office and is by far the top movie of 2022.

The threequel dinosaur movie falls to number 4 this weekend with a gross of £1.8 Million, a large 47% drop over last weekend.

This gives the Jurassic movie a total UK gross of £30.4 Million after 4 weeks of release and its the 5th top movie of 2022 in the UK.

The Toy Story inspired movie and origin movie to Buzz Lightyear drops to number 5 this weekend with £864,035, a large 62% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £8.5 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Elvis tops the UK box office on its debut weekend ending the 2 week run of Jurassic World: Dominion.

The Black Phone is also new at number 5 this weekend while outside the top 5 Jug Jugg Jeeyo is new at 6 with £163,648, George Michael Freedom is new at number 9 with £68,399 and finally Sher Bagga is new at 13 with £28,084.

  • Highest debut - Elvis~2022 (@1)
  • Longest run - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and The Bad Guys (13 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Top Gun: Maverick (£63 Million)

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th June 2022

Directed by the excellent Baz Luhrmann and starring an Oscar worthy performance by Austin Butler as Elvis the new bio-pic makes its debut at number 1.

The movie opens with a gross of £4 Million.

Two weeks at the top for the third in the sequel Jurassic series as the movie gets replaces at the top of the UK box office.

The movie takes a third weekend gross of £3.4 Million, a 40% drop over last weekend, which pushes the movies total gross to £27.1 Million.

This makes it the 5th top movie of 2022 in the UK, although it is the lowest grossing of the "world" series of Jurassic movies.

The Tom Cruise starring sequel movie falls to number 3 this weekend with £3.3 Million, a small 21% drop from last weekend, on its 5th weekend of release.

Globally the movie has just gone over the $1 Billion mark, and in the UK it has been no slouch as it crosses the £60 Million mark with a total UK gross of £63 Million.

This gives the movie the title of top movie of 2022, which I think it will retain, and it is about to break into the top 20 UK movies of all time with the district possibility of getting into the top 10 in the coming weeks.

Pixars much anticipated Buzz Lightyear origin movie has unfortunately been a bit of a flop of the Disney based studio as it drops to number 4 on its second weekend of release with £2.2 Million, a 38% drop over its debut last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross after 2 weeks of £6.9 Million, not a bad 2 week gross, but this is a Pixar movie!

Finally on the top 5 this weekend is the new horror movie from director Scott Derrickson which stars Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames.

The movie takes a very reasonable £1.3 Million on its UK debut.

The new movie from Pixar and Disney, Lightyear makes its debut at number 3 this weekend as Jurassic World Dominion and Top Gun Maverick prove too strong to remove from the top 2.

Also new this weekend in the top 5 is Good Luck to You Leo Grande while at the lower end of the box office top 15 is Veetla Vishesham at number 13 with £14,003 and the re-release of the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me which is new at 14 with £12,843.

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Jurassic World: Dominion (2nd weekend)
  • Highest debut - Lightyear (@3)
  • Longest run - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and The Bad Guys (12 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Top Gun: Maverick (£57 Million)

UK weekend box office top 5 breakdown 17th - 19th June 2022

Second weekend at the top for the Jurassic World sequel movie as it takes £5.7 Million over the weekend, a large 53% drop over its debut last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £21.7 Million after 10 days of release and gives it the 8th top movie of 2022.

So far this is the lowest grossing movie of the Jurassic World series, although it is still tracking to be one of the top 5 movies of 2022 in the UK.

Despite the fact the movie was delayed over a year, and the 36 years between the two movies no one could have imagined how successful this sequel to Top Gun was going to be.

This weekend the movie takes £4.2 Million on its fourth weekend, this is a small 24% over the previous week.

The movie has now taken an incredible £57.3 Million in the UK and is showing no signs of slowing down.

The sequel movie is currently the 25th top movie in the UK, comparing it to the top movie of all time in the UK Star Wars: The Force Awakens that movie has taken £108.4 Million on its fourth weekend, so this is tracking about half that, although the 2015 Star Wars sequel had a massive built in audience, this is slow burning and using word of mouth.

The movie is the top film of 2022 in the UK where is could stay until the end of the year.

Top new movie of the weekend is the first Pixar movie to get a cinema release since the CGI animated studio released Onward at the start of 2020 as the world locked down to COVID-19.

This Buzz Lightyear origins movie from the Toy Story series of films makes its debut to £3.7 Million, with mixed reviews clearly damaging its box office performance.

Onward from 2020 make a similar debut but that was a world that was starting to shutdown with the public getting nervous about spending time in rooms with lots of people.

Another new movie this weekend making its debut at number 4 as Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack star in Sophie Hyde's new movie.

The film makes its debut on the UK box office with £238,640.

The MCU sequel movie falls to number 3 this weekend with £169,578 on its 7th weekend, this gives the movie a total UK gross of £41 Million and its the 2nd top movie of 2022.

The third Jurassic World movie makes its debut a the top of the UK box office with an excellent gross of over £12 Million.

Further down the box office Ante Sundaraniki is new at number 10 with £73,822 and All My Friends Hate Me is also new at number 12 with £42,888.

  • Longest run - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and The Bad Guys (11 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Top Gun: Maverick (£50 Million)

Jurassic World Dominion

The third and last of the Jurassic saga hits the UK box office with a debut gross of £12.1 Million which takes it to the top of the box office.

In comparison to the other two movies in this trilogy it is the lowest with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom taking £14 Million in its debut in 2018 and Jurassic World taking nearly £20 Million in 2015.

The new movie blends the characters from the closing trilogy with the 'classic' characters from the Jurassic park series.

Top Gun Maverick
