    News from around the web

Warner Bros. have today announced the title of the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series will be titled The Secrets Of Dumbledore.

The movie will star once again Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Jude Law as the younger Albus Dumbledore, but after the resignation of Johnny Depp, Mads Mikkelsen will take on the role of Gellert Grindelwald.

Once again this is an original story from author of the Wizarding World J.K. Rowling based on the Harry Potter short story Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The movie is set for release in cinemas across the world from April 15th 2022.

After making a mark for herself in the DC universe with the successful Wonder Woman and the soon to be released Wonder Woman 1984, director Parry Jenkins is directing a spin off Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron.

No more details were given at Disneys Investors Convention on December 10th but the image shows an X-Wing fighter and as we know Rogue Squadron was a Rebel Alliance starfighter squadron in the original Star Wars.

The spin off movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was named after this call sign.

That film which was well received by fans was based before the original Star Wars movie, no this could likely be about the formation of the squad and go into more detail about that time in the first film, with crossovers.

The movie isn't set for release until December 2023 and joins the already announced movies being directed by Thor Ragnorak director Taika Waititi.

The good news is we got a box office chart this weekend, the bad news is only due to the lockdown effecting most of the UK only 22 cinemas were open and the top movie took most of its weekend gross from the previous weekend!

Documentary feature The Three Kings was the top movie of the weekend, it knocked off Two By Two: Overboard! to number 3, but the whole top 15 took just over £19,00.

Outside the top 5, sequel movie A Christmas Gift From Bob made its debut at 9 with £757.

Here is this weeks top 15 Quickview

    • Number 1 - The Three Kings (1st week)
    • Highest debut - The Three Kings (@1)
    • Longest run - Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite! (6 weeks)*
    • Highest total gross - Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite! (£1,375,548)*
    • *Not including re-releases

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies on the UK box office 6th - 8th November 2020

    The Three Kings

The documentary feature from Jonny Owen makes its debut at number 1 with a weekend gross of £3,521, altohugh £3,470 was from preview screenings meaning it took £51 over the weekend which would have given Honest Thief the top position.

The film is about 3 of the greatest Scottish footballer managers of all time, and with most, if not all, cinemas in the UK allowed to open are in Scotland during the lockdown this is perhaps no surprise.

This is a number 1 due to extreme and unique circumstances, congratulations to Jonny Owen and the film makers for the number 1 but I suspect the movie will disappear next weekend.

    Honest Thief

Jumping back up to number 2 is the Liam Neeson vehicle which takes £2,922 over the weekend, 98% down from last weekend which gives the movie a £651,408 total after 3 weeks.

    Two By Two: Overboard!

Falling from the top to number 3 is the animated movies about animals on the ark which takes £2,374 over the weekend, 99% down from last weekend.

The animated feature has had a great box office run in the COVID-19 era and has not taken just under a million pound over 3 weeks.

    Words On Bathroom Walls

Entering the box office at number 4 this weekend is director Thor Freudenthal movie which takes £1,709 on its debut weekend.

    The Secret Garden

Adapted from the children's novel and starring starring Julie Walters, Colin Firth the movie drops to number 5 this weekend with £1,709, a 99% drop, which gives the movie a total gross of £664,051.

As cinemas in the UK close their doors for a second time in 2020 due to a government enforced lockdown to control the COVID-19 pandemic this weeks new releases are slim and share a same date release with a home digital release. There are 3 new releases looking to take your, last week saw Two By Two: Overboard! spend a second week at the top of the UK box office.

Although cinemas are far from back to normal in the US many cinemas have opened, although with limited capacity and many are making their audiences wear masks which are putting people off going back, The New Mutants tops the weekend with the closest thing to a pre-pandemic gross since mid March.

The Mutant movie was joined by Bill And Ted and David Copperfield as new releases on the top 5 which the top 3 all grossed over a million dollars.

There are a number of other bog new films released in the comping weeks including Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow which should all mean a growth in cinema going.

Here is the top 5 movies in the US weekend 28th - 30th August 2020.

    The New Mutants

The movie had a troubled journey to the cinema having its release date movies a number of time, more recently because of the coronavirus but also due to scheduling problems and the 20th Century Fox buyout from Disney.

It has finally got the cinema and whether by design or not it is the first big release to hit the top since cinemas closed in mid March and it does so with a $7 Million debut.

After hitting the top last weekend the Russell Crowe movie falls to number 2 this weekend with $2.6 Million giving the movie a $8.8 Million total after 3 weeks.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

The movie should have come out earlier in the year before it was announced it would get a simultaneous movie theatre and VOD release.

The movie lands on the box office at number 3 with a debut gross of just over a million dollars, digital number are hard to come by.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

The movie hit the Uk box office back in January of this year and was a sizeable hit, after a couple of delays the movie hits US movie theatres with a $520K debut weeekend.

    Words On Bathroom Walls

After entering the box office at number 3 last weekend the Thor Freudenthal directed movie falls to 5 with a weekend gross of $453K.

This takes the movies total gross to $1.08 MIllion after 2 weeks on the box office.
