US Box Office Weekend Report 3rd - 5th January 2025:  As the new year comes round Mufasa: The Lion King takes over at the top of the North American box office on its third week of release

Disney's sequel movie Mufasa: The Lion King jumps up a single place to the top of the North American box office this weekend to kick of 2025 in style.

The movie takes $23.8 Million over the weekend which pushes the movies total North American gross to $168.6 Million.

Despite the new year boost for the movie its a far cry from the original The Lion King's $430.8 Million at this point in its run.

After 2 weeks at the top Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gives up the top spot, it was a close run though as the Sonic the Hedgehog threequel took $21.2 Million over the weekend which gives it a $187.5 Million total.

There were no new movies enter the top 5 or top 10 this weekend, the highest entry was the re-release of Seven from 1996 which the top new movie was The Damned at number 13!
