Fast & Furious 9

The Justin Lin directed ninth instalment of The Fast Saga stays at the top of the Uk box office for a second weekend with £2.6 Million, a 55% drop from last week.

The movie is on its second weekend of release and has a UK gross of £10.8 Million.

Compared to the previous movie in the franchise, Fast & Furious 8, its less than half the total gross, but of course in the current box office climate it is an unfair comparison.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

The runaway smash of the summer, the Peter Rabbit sequel movie remains at number 2 for the 6th weekend and this week takes £,830,560, which is basically the same as last weekend.

The movie has been a massive smash hit in the UK, no doubt fuelled by fan favourite James Cordon as the voice of Peter, and has taken £17.4 Million in the UK.

This is by far the top grossing movie of 2021 which didn't start until 7 weeks ago, it will be interesting to see if it can keep its lead with Fast & Furious 9 doing so well and the new MCU movie Black Widow out this coming week.

In the Heights

The Jon M. Chu directed movie is proving to be a big hit in the UK and this weekend takes £466,156, only 32% down on last weekend, giving it a total UK gross of £3.3 Million.

A Quiet Place Part II

The Emily Blunt starring horror movie sequel takes £425,798 this weekend, 29% down, for a total gross of £10.3 Million.

Interestingly the movie is actually running parallel with its predecessor and could potentially beat its total UK gross.

This has been a surprise hit for Disney and this weekend spends a 6th weekend inside the top 5 with £410,789, a very slim 11% drop from last weekend.

The movies total Uk gros is now at £8.4 Million after its 6 weeks of release.

While the ninth Fast movie continues to do well across the globe before the release of Black Widow next week and hence stays at the top animated feature The Boss Baby 2 makes a new entry at number 3.

Also making a new entry this weekend is The Forever Purge which is at number 4 and Chinese movie The Pioneer makes its debut at 7 with over $10 Million.

Global box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Fast & Furious 9 (3rd Weekend total)
  • Highest debut - The Boss Baby 2 (@3)
  • Longest Run - Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (15 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Fast & Furious 9 ($491.506 Million)

Global box office top 5 breakdown 2nd - 4th July 2021

The movie has now been on release globally for 7 weeks and has taken $491.5 Million, the movie should break half a billion by next weekend.

The Chinese movie jumps up to number 2 this weekend as its release in more countries, this week its count is 4 and it takes $21.6 Million, an expected 46% increase from last weekend.

After 2 weeks of release the movie has taken $45.7 Million globally.

The Boss Baby 2

The animated sequel makes its global debut this weekend at number 3 with a debut gross of $18.8 Million.

Released in only 9 countries so far the movie will stick around for a while as it opens across the globe.

The Forever Purge

Also making a debut this weekend is the fifth movie in The Purge series which enters at 4 with $16.3 Million from 23 territories.

Closing out the top 5 this weekend is Disney's hit movie which takes $11.5 Million from 44 countries, a slender 19% drop and after 6 weeks the movie has taken $204.3 Million.

With cinemas really starting to show a return to normal we get the best opening weekend of the 'pandemic' era as Fast and Furious 9 shows that a year of delays hasn't hurt its box office potential.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard falls to number 3 this weekend and with such a big blockbuster hitting the top no studios released new movies in competition so F9 is the only new movie on the top 10.

US box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Fast and Furious 9 (1st Weekend)
  • Highest debut - Fast and Furious 9 (@1)
  • Longest run - Raya and the Last Dragon (18 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - A Quiet Plavce Part II ($136.3 Million)

Fast and Furious 9

Delayed by over a year due to COVID-19 the 9th movie in the successful car franchise hits the top spot on its debut release with an pandemic excellent $70 Million.

As expected this beats all other movie in the last 18 months and sets a new standard for recent movies.

It also gives a real indication that things are starting to go back to normal and cinema audiences are starting to return.

The future looks good for the movie with just Black Widow still a while away which will challenge for the top spot.

A Quiet Place Part II

The horror movie falls to number 2 this week after retaking the top spot last weekend with a gross of $6.2 Million, a 32% drop from last week.

This gives the movie a yearly best os $136.3 Million after 5 weeks of release.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

The sequel movie hit hard last weekend but lost steam in its second weekend with a fall to 3 and a $4.87 Million weekend, a large 71% drop.

After 2 weeks of release the movie has now taken $25.8 Million and is looking to disappear from the box office fast.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

Managing to hang on to a place on the top 5 is the sequel movie which this weekend takes $4.85 Million, just 20% down, for a 3 week total of $28.8 Million.

Disney have done will with movies on the Disney+ platform and cinema at the same time and this weekend their origin movie remains at 5 with $3.7 Million, 23% down, for a very respectable $71.3 Million total after 5 weeks.

Sequel movie The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard got a Monday release last week and with a full weeks box office figures tops the chart, but musical In The Heights is the top movie over the Friday - Sunday frame.

Videogame Monster Hunter make a debut at number 9 with a £150,000 debut and In the Earth has to make do with an entry at number 13 with £58,000.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

Making its debit at the top of UK box office this week is the sequel movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson which got its release in Monday.

The movie takes £1.6 Million across the whole week and takes £1 Million over the Friday - Sunday frame which would put it at number 3 behind Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and In The Heights

Bad reviews for the movie means it may be short lived, the original movie from 2017 took £1.9 Million on its debut before a 5 week run on the box office.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

Remaining at number 2 this week is the Peter Rabbit sequel movie which takes £1.1, a 28% increase from last weekend.

This has the movie back at the top of the box office over the weekend frame and gives the movie a £15.2 Million total over 5 weeks of release.

It is the top grossing movie in the UK for 2021 and the top grossing movie over the pandemic period, which will be coming to an end with the lockdown set to finish in July.

In the Heights

Director Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the hit broadway musical enters the box office at number 3 this weekend with £1.07 Million, just shy of the Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway total for the weekend and was nearly the top movie over the 3 day weekend.

The movie would of course have been the top new entry at number 2 had it not been for The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard extended debut run.

A Quiet Place Part II

John Krasinski's horror hit falls from the top after 2 weeks to number 4 this weekend with £1.02 Million, a 22% drop over last weeeknd.

Three weeks on and the movie has taken a very respectable £8.2 Million at the UK box office.
